Yesterday my mom and I were setting up our Christmas village and we heard some interesting noises. We live next to a bird sanctuary and thought maybe it was just some birds up on the roof. We heard it a few more times and then were heard crying coming from the garage.
We went out into the garage and realized it was a cat meowing, but we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I haven't had good experiences with cats in the past. We apprehensively started opening cupboard doors expecting the cat to jump out with all paws up, ready to claw the first thing it came in contact with. I was probably quite humorous and entertaining to watch.
He wasn't in any of the cupboards so we finally pulled out a ladder and I climbed up to look on top of the cupboards. Between the garage wall and the cupboards was a small four inch gap that the cat had fallen into about 7 feet down. We tried draping blankets tied together down the hole to see if the cat would grab hold but it wouldn't, so I called Mace, my father-in-law.
We ended up having to cut a hole in the back of the cupboard to retrieve it. We started with a small hole and ended up cutting about an 8 to 10 inch hole in order to retrieve it. It came out with tear filled eyes and was so happy to finally be free. It was one large cat and we still can't figure out how he got up on top of the cupboards in the first place.
(I tried to grab my camera and take pictures, but the battery was dead.)
